The National Franchise and Small Business Convention begins. As over 800 national and international guests from the franchising industry gather in Melbourne. This year the convention hosts the World Franchising Conference, the first time its been held in Australia since 2000. The conference theme is Franchise Foundations, Building the Future Together, and there will be a global emphasis throughout the proceedings.
The keynote speaker of the National Franchise Small Business Convention is US entrepreneur of the year, Paul Hogan, the CEO and founder of Home Instead Senior Care which has franchises in 11 countries, including Australia. In Australia, there are 960 franchise brands that generate more than 128 billion each year and employ 600,000 people in 70,000 work places. Franchises are Australias unsung heroes that produce close to 50 per cent of all small business GDP.
The four day conference will be held at Crown Promenade and Melbourne Exhibition Centre with an expo of franchising suppliers and consultants running on Friday and Saturday at the exhibition centre. The World Franchise International Conference starts the proceedings tomorrow and will address issues of the global economy and outline benefits and challenges of international franchising.
